Standing at our Look Out point on the iconic Spitskop Mountain, a stunningly beautiful African morning looking East towards the majestic Maluti Mountains, in the Eastern Highlands of the Free State.

Today I followed the awesome footprints and paths made by some of our many Porcupines here at Spitskop. It was an AMAZING INTERESTING learning curve, how these beautiful gentle vegetarian creatures with little stumpy legs attack the steep rocky surface, coming all the way down......then going all the way back, in the dark hours of night, for they are night creatures.

At this time of the year we await the arrival of the real 'long haul' summer visitors to Amohela ho Spitskop Conservancy. Within the next few weeks we shall greet some familiar old friends who make the long long journey to us.

They came for A Year and a Day, these giant birds dressed in royal attire, they follow no clock that we know nor can we predict their arrival but we can and do delight in their presence.
