The Cabin Farm Stall

A couple of kilometres the other side of Clocolan, not far from Amohela ho Spitskop, The Cabin Farm Stall is found. Farm Stall is not quite the way to describe The Cabin, with a superb eclectic shopping experience, a wide variety of delicious food, including a curry peach salad and boerejongens - perfect for a road trip lunch! Freshen up with a watermelon and strawberry or orange, pineapple and carrot juice or have a hearty breakfast Free State style next to the glowing reclaimed metal fire place. Situated just off the R26, a well worth while day visit on your Eastern Free State road trip and stop over at Amohela ho Spitskop Country Retreat.

And those magnificent Maluti Mountains!

The luminous crisp clear winter air of the Eastern Free State in winter months, with the Maluti Mountains snow covered for much of the winter, make a day trip into the mountains an absolute must. Pack a picnic lunch, cameras, binoculars, take hats scarves and gloves for jumping out at viewpoints to take photos, and keep an eye out for the elusive lammergeyer, the awesome jackal buzzards hunting along cliffs and valleys, and if you are lucky, spot an orange breasted rockjumper, endemic to this area.

Afriski Ski Resort in Lesotho is a great day drive and fun for the whole family.  It’s a stunningly beautiful drive through Eastern Free State landscape then into the magnificent Maluti Mountains. It is some 70 kms from the Caledonspoort border post, a quiet and friendly border post with very few vehicles, and from the border straight into mountain territory. You do need a valid passport to enter Lesotho.
