Why we are Special – and different – and a MUST VISIT.

WALK LIGHTLY ON THE EARTH
20 years of Wilding - there has been no poisons, sprays, chemical fertlizers - no destructive tilling - and wild & native healing plants proliferate - there are bees and butterflies & the carbon is sequestered beneath our feet.

We have native plants – beautiful medicinal herbs – wild flowers – butterflies – bees.

In huge holes in the ground aardvark sleep, beautiful springhare and enigmatic porcupines slumber, ground squirrels keep us in stiches with their antics, secretive duiker roam the pathways and mountain, the stunning serval wanders, feeding on fat healthy rats.

Our views are spectacular. The Eastern Free State is known for its scenic beauty, and Spitskop is situated in one of the most stunning parts – with views of the majestic Maluti Mountains and vast magical beautifulness in every direction.

We have a 250 million year old mountain – with an ancient pathway cleared by many hands long ago - leading up to the first plateau - there are picnic spots and wonderful places for quiet meditation and a look out with views to take your breath away – a cave in the sandstone cliffs where you can sit quietly and listen to the heart of the mountain – or make it to the top and just gaze at the views.

Beautiful Quietness – not silence – but a “quietness” that is filled with the sounds of birds chattering, blue korhaan and spurwing geese busy and honking -  wind sighing through the scrub, ducks of various species – moorhen - little grebe - red-knobbed coot, and others, chatting away on the dams – and if you get too close –  fat dassies will shout a warning at you.

The spacious comfortable family cottages are superb – secluded – private – where families can get together and spend time together – talk and eat and read and walk – just BE together.

With huge fires for magical winter ambience – big comfy couches – well equipped kitchens, weber braai on the covered deck – it just does not get better than this.

There are wonderful cottages built from sandstone blocks hewed in the Lesotho highlands - with limewashed walls and high beamed ceilings and wood burning fires – that take just two people wanting to spend time together - in quietness and indulgent luxury.
