Amohela ho Spitskop is a 310 hectare Country Retreat in the magnificent Eastern Free State Highlands, on the Clocolan/Ficksburg border.

Nestled in a valley between Ficksburg and Clocolan, a visit to this privately owned Reserve is an absolute must.

Built from beautiful local stone, the cottages are large, luxurious, tastefully equipped for self-catering, the décor exceptional.

With huge open fires, big comfy couches, books, magazines and views to die for, this is the perfect getaway for the discerning guest.

The Retreat offers fly fishing for trout and black bass, walks, hikes, mountain & cycle trails, birding, small game, self drive day trips, seclusion & privacy and incredibly beautiful night skies and endless silence.

Rediscover your soul in the vast space and timelessness of the Highlands, where magnificent sunrises and sunsets begin and end each day.

French doors and windows lead from both the lounge and the bedrooms onto the covered deck, with magnificent views of the Maluti Mountains. Each house has a Weber Braai. The houses are self-catering and fully serviced on a daily basis.

However for those guests who do not wish to self cater, scrumptious breakfasts and three course candle lit dinners are served at Dassie House, the beautifully restored original farmhouse (on request).

There is also a small intimate pub where guests can gather for pre dinner drinks.

DSTV is available in the main lounge at Dassie House where guests can watch that favourite program or sports programs (open 9am to 7pm).

Porcupine House and Guinea Fowl House each have two superb heated bedrooms and two heated bathrooms, whilst Mongoose House has three bedrooms and two bathrooms

Nippa's Trout Dam: Clear still water with some weeds.

Georges Pond & Quarry: No weeds, still water some 2 meters deep, water less clear but visibility great for fishing.

Second Quarry: No weeds, visibility as above, very deep cold water.

Third Quarry: Crystal clear water, bottom weeds only. At this time trophy trout for viewing only in this quarry only

Coot Dam: 5 ha still water, shallow to deep, weeds along banks, needs waders or non motorized boats/float tubes, superb fishing but more challenging. Well stocked with trout, barbel also occur at this dam, some very large and seriously challenging on the fly.

We support catch and release, fly fishing methods & equipment only, barbless flies, bring your own tackle, we do carry a small selection of tippet and flies.

Ficksburg, the home of the Cherry Festival, is an easy 20 minute drive. The Retreat, on 14 kms of gravel road, is an easy 3½ hour drive from Johannesburg and 1¾ hour drive from Bloemfontein.
