A Beautiful African Summer in the Eastern Highlands

Posted on Sat December 16, 2017.

Rural France? Italy with Lombardy Poplars and awesome mountains?
Indeed no, a stunningly beautiful slightly misty morning from the Look Out
on our Spitskop Mountain, right here in the Eastern Highlands of the Free State.

Mention the Free State and immediately people tend to think of the endless plains stretching into the distance, with maybe a couple of cattle standing under a forlorn tree or sheep grazing on flat grasslands. Well, then you have not been to the Highlands of the scenic Eastern Free State. Here, close to the majestic Maluti Mountains, the summers are more temperate, the days hot, the nights cooler, when the air at night is like warm velvet on your skin, and a little pashmina is comfortable pulled over the shoulders.

This beautiful place could simply not be more centrally located, bordered by the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, North West, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces, as well as Lesotho, remote yet accessible,  the Perfect Place to spend some time, to escape from the heat, the noise in the city.  If you seek the most awesome, the most indulgent accommodation for just two, then you simply must experience the SkyWind Cottages.

A family wanting a few days away with long lazy days reading, swimming, dreaming, then the EarthStone Self Catering Cottages are the order of the day.

We have taken great care to retain the authenticity of a farm reservoir, whilst still creating a really lovely swimming experience, in cold borehole water, filtered and cleaned daily. It is very special to sit surrounded by the vast Spitskop Valley with 360 degree views, the breeze through the grasslands, the sound of birds, insects, above you the clear blue sky with drifting popcorn clouds floating by.

Experience incredible sunrises, beautiful hikes in scenic beauty, swim UNDER the Rainbow, gaze at sunrises that take your breath away, braais on the covered deck with THESE VIEWS...............WOW!
